Η 94η τελετή απονομής των Όσκαρ, επέστρεψε φέτος στο Dolby Theater. Τρία χρόνια μετά την απουσία οικοδεσπότη, η Ακαδημία αποφάσισε φέτος να προσκαλέσει τρεις οικοδέσποινες για να αναπληρώσει το κενό των προηγούμενων τελετών απονομής. Οι ηθοποιοί – κωμικοί Εϊμι Σούμπερ και Γουάντα Σάικς και ηθοποιός Ρετζίνα Χολ παρουσίασαν την φετινή τελετή.
Το γεγονός της βραδιάς: Ο Will Smith χαστούκισε τον Κρις Ροκ μετά από σχόλιο για τη σύζυγό του. Τι συνέβη; Όλα ξεκίνησαν όταν ο -γνωστός για το χιούμορ του- Κρις Ροκ αστειεύτηκε με το ξυρισμένο κεφάλι της Τζέιντα Πίνκετ Σμιθ, της συζύγου του Will Smith, η οποία σημειωτέον πάσχει από αλωπεκίαση. Η αντίδραση του Will Smith, ωστόσο, όπως φάνηκε δεν ήταν και πολύ ψύχραιμη…!! Λίγο αργότερα, ο Will Smith κέρδισε το Όσκαρ Α’ Ανδρικού Ρόλου για την ερμηνεία του στο «Η μέθοδος Γουίλιαμς», με τον σπουδαίο Αμερικανό ηθοποιό να απολογείται με δάκρυα στα μάτια για την πράξη του: «Θέλω να ζητήσω συγνώμη από την Ακαδημία», είπε ο Σμιθ. «Η αγάπη σε εξωθεί να κάνεις τρελά πράγματα», δήλωσε προσπαθώντας να δικαιολογηθεί, κατά την απονομή του χρυσού αγαλματιδίου.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της 94ης τελετής απονομής των βραβείων της αμερικανικής ακαδημίας κινηματογράφου στο Χόλιγουντ τηρήθηκε ενός λεπτού σιγή σε απότιση φόρου τιμής στην Ουκρανία, όπου εισέβαλε ο στρατός της Ρωσίας την 24η Φεβρουαρίου. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτής της σύντομης διακοπής του πάρτι του αμερικανικού κινηματογράφου, στις γιγαντοοθόνες προβάλλονταν μηνύματα που καλούσαν τους θεατές να στείλουν ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια, απαριθμώντας τις ανάγκες των Ουκρανών για βασικά είδη, ανάμεσά τους «τροφή», «ιατρική φροντίδα» και φάρμακα, ή ακόμη για «κουβέρτες». «Σας ζητάμε να βοηθήσετε την Ουκρανία με όποιο τρόπο μπορείτε», ανέφερε άλλο μήνυμα.
