Κι όμως, αυτή την περίοδο, όποιος βρεθεί εκεί, θα έχει τη δυνατότητα να δει κάτι εκπληκτικό:
Δύο τεράστια χέρια να ξεπροβάλλουν μέσα από το νερό και να στηρίζουν το ιστορικό ξενοδοχείο Ca’ Sagredo.
'SUPPORT' in Venice to support this wonder of city that is threatened by climate change like many other world Heritage sites around the world. I hope my art brings a new focus of attention to a global calamity that we are faced with. Πρόκειται για το εντυπωσιακό γλυπτό του Lorenzo Quinn, το οποίο παρουσιάστηκε στις 13 Μαΐου.
Το γλυπτό έχει τον τίτλο «Support», ενώ τα δύο χέρια που δημιουργήθηκαν σε συνεργασία με την Haycon Gallery του Λονδίνου και την πόλη της Βενετίας, θα στηρίζουν το κτίριο μέχρι τις 26 Νοεμβρίου.

Στόχος του γλυπτού είναι να υπενθυμίσει ότι πόλεις σαν τη Βενετία απειλούνται από την αύξηση της στάθμης του νερού, εξαιτίας της κλιματικής αλλαγής, αλλά και να καλέσει τον καθένα από εμάς να δράσει πριν να είναι πολύ αργά.
Το έργο αφορά «τις δύο πλευρές της ανθρώπινης φύσης, τη δημιουργική και την καταστροφική, καθώς και την ικανότητα των ανθρώπων να δρουν και να επηρεάζουν την ιστορία και το περιβάλλον» λέει σε σχετικό δελτίο τύπου η Haycon Gallery.
«Τα χέρια συμβολίζουν τα μέσα που μπορούν να καταστρέψουν τον κόσμο, αλλά που έχουν επίσης την ικανότητα να τον σώσουν».
A big thank you to all for your comments and likes. It's been overwhelming. I wish I could thank each and everyone of you individually. This sculpture 'Support' placed in Venice at Ca' Sagredo, coinciding with the opening of the Venice Biennale, wants to speak to the people in a clear, simple and direct way through the innocent hands of a child and it evokes a powerful message which is that united we can make a stand to curb the climate change that affects us all. «Έχω τρία παιδιά και σκέφτομαι για τη γενιά τους και τι κόσμο θα τους κληρονομήσουμε. Ανησυχώ πάρα πολύ και κάτι πρέπει να γίνει» δήλωσε για το έργο του ο καλλιτέχνης. ο οποίος έφτιαξε τα χέρια στο εργαστήριό του στην Ισπανία μέσα σε τρεις εβδομάδες.
Ο ίδιος συμπλήρωσε ότι ως μοντέλο για τα χέρια, χρησιμοποίησε τον 11χρονο γιο του, αφού “τα χέρια ενός παιδιού να ξεπροβάλλουν για να προσφέρουν στήριξη και βοήθεια, δείχνοντάς μας έτσι τον δρόμο που θα έπρεπε να ακολουθήσουμε όλοι.”
